  10. I am deeply grateful for the time I spent under the leadership of Bishop Spears while attending Texas Wesleyan School of Law. During that season of my life, his preaching, teaching, and example helped shape my faith in lasting ways. I grew spiritually because of the Word he sowed, and those seeds continue to produce fruit in my walk with Christ.

Though our hearts feel the weight of his absence, we rejoice knowing that he has entered into eternal rest, from labor to reward, and now rests in the presence of the God he faithfully served. What a blessing to know he has heard, β€œWell done, good and faithful servant.”

Praying peace, comfort, and strength for First Lady Spears and family, church family, and every life he touched. His legacy lives on through the many he poured into.

  11. I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Bishop Kenneth Spears! Thank you Bishop for your impact in this world and leaving us with a lifetime of wonderful memories.

  12. My sincerest condolences and prayers offered for a giant whose legacy will continue on strength and comfort for the days, weeks, months and years that lies ahead.

  13. I extend condolences for Pastor Spears with a tone that reflects both respect and continuity.
My family spent years under his roof, moving through Sundays that shaped us. I remember the steady rhythm of Sunday school, the way those lessons settled into you before you even realized it. I remember the Easter egg hunts, the church grounds full of kids running, laughing, and feeling safe because his leadership created that environment. Those moments became part of our foundation.
His presence carried authority without force and guidance without noise. His absence sits heavy across the community, and the silence he leaves behind is real. Strength to his family as they carry his legacy forward. Strength to the church as they navigate the shift while still holding onto everything he built. His work continues through the people he touched, and his name remains spoken with honor.

  14. May the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead, promised to give life to our mortal bodies, bring you comfort (Romans 8:11). Bishop served faithfully and now he rests in the presence of the Lord. May God’s peace surround you
Lady Angela, Kenneth, Kyle, and Sam in this difficult time.

  19. To Lady Angela Walker Spears, Kenneth, Kyle and the entire family of First St. John Cathedral: My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to each of us. Bishop Spears was not only a pastor, but a giant and trailblazer in the ministry. There are so memories that we can all cling to years. I will miss him as much as each of you, but I realize that God does not make mistakes, so we must cling to His Word, His Will and His Way.

  20. To Lady Angela, Kenneth, Kyle, the Spears family, and the First Saint John Cathedral community:

I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to you as we honor the life and legacy of Bishop Kenneth B. Spears, whom I knew as my pastor, my mentor, and my friend.

I first met Bishop Spears in 1999, while working with a community health initiative in Southeast Fort Worth on behalf of Osteopathic Health Systems of Texas. He introduced himself as the pastor of First Saint John, my grandmother’s home church, and the church where my mother and her siblings grew up spiritually. What began as a brief professional introduction became a defining moment in my spiritual journey. Through that encounter, God opened space for my call to ministry, for service in the Singles Ministry, and for meaningful work in community outreach. Bishop recognized potential in people, and he created room for us to grow into it, inspiring us with his faith and leadership.

Bishop Spears led with conviction, compassion, and clarity. He served faithfully until the end, and we honor him with the words of Scripture: β€œI have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)

His absence is deeply felt, yet his legacy remains firmly rooted in the lives he shaped and the community we continue to build together.

May God’s peace surround the Spears family and the First Saint John Cathedral family in the days ahead, strengthening us all as we remember his life and continue his work.

With heartfelt sympathy and enduring gratitude,

    Dr. William Garner
