In Loving Memory of Bernice Gary

September 22, 1946 – December 7, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernice Gary on December 7, 2023. Bernice, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this world at her residence in Dallas, TX, surrounded by her loving family. She was 77 years old.

Born on September 22, 1946, Bernice was a proud African American woman whose vibrant spirit and gentle soul left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Throughout her life, she exemplified perseverance, resilience, and compassion, traits that she passed down to her children and siblings.

Bernice was a woman of strong faith and found comfort and solace in her relationship with God. She was an active member of Nehemiah God’s Way Church, where she faithfully worshiped and served her community. It was through her unwavering devotion to her faith that she touched the lives of many, offering love, support, and guidance to all who sought it.

Prioritizing education, Bernice proudly earned her High School Diploma, an achievement that she carried with great pride. She was a staunch advocate for the importance of knowledge and instilled in her children the value of learning, encouraging them to pursue their educational aspirations.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Deunza Polk-Smith, Debra Polk, William Polk, Jr., and Leonard Washington, III. Bernice also leaves behind her caring sister, Diane Bethany-Jacobs, and her devoted brothers, Herman Bethany and Sylvester Bethany, Jr.

A woman of grace and dignity, Bernice will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her presence in the lives of those around her was truly a gift, and her memory will forever serve as a beacon of inspiration and love.

To honor Bernice’s life, a public viewing has been arranged at Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home on December 21, 2023, from 1:00-6:00pm. Funeral services will be held at Nehemiah God’s Way Church on December 22, 2023, at 10:00 am, followed by her burial at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

In her final resting place, Bernice will be interred with the utmost reverence and respect, next to her beloved late husband, Mr. Claude Gary. The burial service will take place at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211, on December 22, 2023, at 1:00 pm.

While we mourn the loss of Bernice, let us also celebrate the incredible woman she was and the enduring legacy she leaves behind. May her gentle soul find eternal peace in the loving embrace of our Creator.
