Elvergene Rose was born in Jefferson, TX November 9, 1935 to Joseph and Emmazell Rose. Elvergene was one of seven children. Three brothers: Author, R.B., and A.D. also three sisters Celia, Betty, and Burnice. Her siblings affectionately call her Jean or Jeanie, .She attended high school at Judea High School in Jefferson, TX  and was an active member of the school’s basketball team. She later changed her name to Elver Jean and married Willie Hue Betts in May of 1956. Together Jean and Willie had three daughters: Ann, Gwen, and Shelia. Their girls were raised and attended school in Fort Worth, TX. 

Jean was often recognized as valued employee. Her resume includes St. Joseph’s Hospital, Colonial Cafeteria, Eastland Elementary, Tension Envelope, TCJC, and Holbert’s Soul Food. Her hobbies include reading her Bible, praying, worshipping, and listening to Christian music.  Jean gave her life to Christ in 1986 at The Sanctuary Church. She later attended Old Ship of Zion until she found her place at Greater St. Stephen’s where she spent many years until God call her home. She remained faithful to the assignment, sang in the choir, and became a Mother of the church. Her love for her church family was matched by their love for her as they picked her up each Sunday, every choir rehearsal, revival, and musical.

Jean was preceded in Heavenly Rest by her Parents, brothers Author and R.B., Brother in law Johnny Macon, niece Carolyn, and grandson Brad.

Jean leaves to cherish her memory: Three Daughters, a Son in law,  eight grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren, 7 Great-Great Grands, Four Siblings, and a host of Cousins, Nephews, Nieces, Church family, and Friends.
